Crocus L’Atelier Malbec 2018, Cahors, France

Paul Hobbs and Bertrand Vigouroux established Crocus to bring about the evolution of Malbec in Cahors. The Vigouroux family has produced wine in the region since 1887, and in 2009 Bertrand Vigouroux partnered with internationally renowned winemaker and Malbec specialist Paul Hobbs. The result: wines that redefine Cahors Malbec, blending Vigouroux’s experience, Cahors terroirs and historic plant material with Hobbs’s vision, methodology and expertise with the varietal. A nearly opaque wine with purple hints, offering a bright and harmonious nose redolent of Morella cherry, black plum and blackberries with a hint of ash and leather. The expansive palate is alive with fresh fig, raspberry and red currant finishing with earthy tannins with a touch of freshly cracked pepper. A rustic and well-structured wine, befitting to pair with a variety of cuisines.
