Cristom, Pinot Noir Jessie Vineyard 2015, Eola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley, Oregon

Cristom Vineyards hangs its hat on a well-earned reputation for making exceptional Pinot Noir. Their rich track record of excellence is the result of a 20-year collaboration between 3 men – an engineer, a biochemist and a farmer – who are, first and foremost, stewards of the land. The winery cultivates 4 Pinot vineyards honoring family matriarchs. High density plantings and low yields guarantee ripe fruit with concentrated flavor. All Cristom estate wines are certified sustainable by L.I.V.E. Jessie’s 11.5 acre vineyard is situated on a spectacularly steep site (350-500 feet in elevation), and boasts the best views on the property. Jessie distinguishes herself with a uniqueness and complexity that likely stems from the site’s ranging slope and 5 distinct soil types. The 2014 Jessie Vineyard Pinot Noir is a forty-two barrel selection of some of the favorite barrels from the vineyard. The overall blend is composed of six clones of Pinot Noir. Jessie Vineyard, in almost any vintage, exudes floral notes of blue and purple flowers and the 2014 expresses this trademark trait beautifully. The nose swirls with earthy tones, dense strawberry fields, Chinese cinnamon, fennel seeds, cloves and star anise. On the
palate there is a richness to the core of opulent fruit and finishes with slightly sandy tannins and a balanced, persistent finish. This wine is drinking well now and may age for the next 10-12 years gracefully. Aged 18 months in French oak 52% new.
