Chateau Saint-Genes stands on the line of hillsides which goes from Saint-Emilion to Castillon, by Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, and Saint-Magne. It is only 500 meters away from Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, part of the jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion and near the ruins of the old fortified town of Magelin (15th century) in Montagne-Saint-Emilion. Character of the wine: Power and distinction, the typical duality of the wines of the Coasts of Castillon, are found in this soil. 70% Merlot for the roundness, 30% Cabernet Franc for the elegance. Today, this Chateau is part of the Joseph Janoueix family estate. History: Guard of this parish and this vineyard, Saint-Genes was in ancient Rome an actor of profession. He poked fun at the Christians while on stage during live performances. One day, touched by the grace, he decided to become catholic and at the end of a show he publically announced his new faith. Emperor Diocletien ordered him to retract, but he refused and was tortured and killed in Rome in the year 303.
