Château Moulin Riche Saint-Julien 2018, Bordeaux, France

Due to soils composed of ‘black earths” and “black gravels’, the plots of Moulin Riche offer the vine a unique ability to regulate the water supply to the plant throughout its vegetative cycle. This phenomenon helps to prevent water stress during summer droughts. Here, the emblematic grape varieties of the Médoc; Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot flourish as well as Petit Verdot. The latter, being a late ripening grape variety, takes full advantage of the heat reflected by the gravels. A variety with small berries, the Petit Verdot brings depth to the blend with a spicy edge and a touch of freshness. From this alliance, the gourmand character specific to the wines of Château Moulin Riche is born. A real explosion of black fruits, this solar vintage fills us with delight. Its elegant structure and roundness perfectly illustrate the very suave profile of the wines of the property. 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 12% Petit Verdot. Absolutely loaded with notions of blueberries, cassis, candied orange, violets, and cedary spice, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness that carries plenty of polished tannins, no hard edges, a big, layered mid-palate, and a great finish. Beautifully done, this perfumed, exotic Saint Julien will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and keep for 15+.
