Chateau Lamothe de Haux 2018, Cadillac-Cotes de Bordeaux, France

Located in the commune of Haux, on top of a clay-limestone slope in the heart of the Bordeaux wine country, Chateau Lamothe de Haux has been devoted to wine growing since the 16th century, and has belonged to the same family for four generations (as of 1956 ). The 80 hectares of vineyards, including those of neighboring Chateau Manos, purchased in1991, are managed by Anne Neel and her children, Maria & Damien Chombart. Merlot (60%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), Cabernet Franc (10%). The Merlot blends beautifully with the clay soil to produce round, rich, heady wines with soft, attractive tannins. The Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in hot, gravely soil. It has tannin that is harder than the Merlot, and makes it possible for the wine to improve with age. The Cabernet Franc contributes finesse and fruitiness. It is best suited in limestone soil, and its roots go deep into Château Lamothe’s friable sub-soil. Vinification: Slight filtration, maturation in stainless steel tank. Maceration for 15 days. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation.
