Chateau La Fleur du Mayne 2020, Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

Run by Sophie Laporte and her partner, this small estate – which like so many in Pomerol has been family-owned though five generations – is situated near to Clinet and has prestigious neighbors including the chateaux of Clinet and Eglise Clinet. The terroir is made up of equal parts of sand on crasse de fer – clay with high iron oxide content – and the gravely clay of the famous Pomerol Plateau. Age of Vines: 40 years. Grape varieties: 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc. Winemaking/Maturing: The old vines are tended using traditional methods (ploughing, leaf culling and green harvesting). The grapes are fermented in cement vats using methods which conserve the typical characteristics of the terroir and yield round, fruity wines with silky tannins.
