Chateau Franc Cantenac 2022, Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux, France

The medieval town of Saint-Emilion has been one of the great focal points of the Bordeaux region for centuries. While the finest Grands Crus command hefty prices, there are lesser known gems, like this, just waiting to be discovered at very affordable prices. The Janoueix family established their business at the end of the 19th century, adding various properties to their portfolio over the years. They acquired Château Franc Cantenac in 2005. Made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this wine displays Saint Emilion’s typical plum and liquorice roundness of flavor. While capable of ageing a few years, it can happily be enjoyed relatively young. Soil type: sandy-clay. Grape varieties: 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc. Time in vat: 4 weeks. Maturing: oak barrel: 1/3 new, 1/3 barrel of 1 year, 1/3 barrel of 2 years.
