Chateau Du Trignon Rasteau 2017, Rasteau Red, Cotes du Rhone Villages, France

The wine estate of Chateau du Trignon was acquired in 1895 by Joseph Roux and run by his descendants until 2007, when Pascal Roux, a passionate winemaker, who had kept the quality of the wine at the highest levels, sold the vineyard to another esteemed Rhone Valley winemaker, Jerome Quiot. Rasteau is a single parcel of red clay and small pebbles, planted in 50 year old Grenache and Mourvedre vines. Grapes totally de-stemmed. Fermented (17-21 days) and matured in vats and ‘foudres’. Garnet ripe berries, “Herbes de Provence”. Balance between body and freshness. Finish on notes of spices and undergrowth.
