Chanson Corton Vergennes Grand Cru 2017, Burgundy, France

Grape Variety: Chardonnay. Soil: clay and limestone covered with stones. Site: A very small single vineyard shared between Chanson and the Hospices de Beaune on a hump of the hill of Corton. The vineyard used to belong to Charles Gravier, Count of Vergennes, born in Dijon, who was counselor to Louis XVI. Count of Vergennes signed with Benjamin Franklin the Treaty of Alliance between France and the United States. With this Treaty France was the first country in the world to recognize the United States of America. Pale gold color with emerald tinges. Floral fragrances mixed with intense aromas of white and yellow orchard fruit with a hint of minerality. Bright attack. Complex and soft texture. Dense. Deep with a salty finish. The Vintage 2017 : After a classic winter, spring settled down with warm températures but cool weather in April slackened down the evolution of the vines. May was rainy and was followed by a warm summer with heat waves. However, a few thunderstorms brought enough rain to allow the maturation of the grapes to continue. Vinification: after a mild pressing, this wine was vinified and aged for 10 to 14 months in oak casks in our cellars of the XVth century. Moderate proportion of new oak.
