Castelfeder Vernatsch “Alte Reben” 2021, Alto Adige DOC, Italy

Gunther Giovanett took over the family business in 1989 after his father retired from the daily operations of the winery he founded in 1970. Located in the center of Neumarkt, in the South Tyrol region of Italy, the Giovanett family produces a range of unique wines. While other nearby producers are making Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio that is mineral and acidic, Castelfeder produces wines that are lean and light with texture and depth as an added dimension. Vernatsch (Schiava) is probably the most famous autochthonous grape variety in South Tyrol. The typical fruity and aromatic red wine is made of grapes with unusual large-sized berries. As the name suggests, the grapes come from older vines that are partially over 80-years old. Label: It shows a combination of its place of origin and a bottle. The vineyards for this Vernatsch are located in special sites of Breitbach, a smaller part of the village Cortaccia. There can be found impressive large cypresses in the middle of the vineyard. Manual harvest, maceration in stainless steel for 10-14 days, maturation on the yeast for 6 months. Bright garnet red color, fruity notes of red berries, delicate structure fresh, aromatic finish.
