Product Description

Dunn Vineyards produces two labels, Howell Mountain and Napa Valley. Both wines are one hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon. They produce around 2500 cases of Howell Mountain and about 1500 cases of Napa Valley. The Howell Mountain wines consist of one hundred percent Howell Mountain fruit. The wines stay in barrels (75% new oak) for 30 months inside the property’s mountain dug caves. The caves’ all-natural constant temperature and humidity result in very little evaporation of the liquid and about 1/2% of alcohol loss as the wines age. The 30 long months in barrel serve to round out the tannins before bottling. The intensity of the fruit and tannins stands up well to the extended barrel aging. 2014 Dunn Vineyards Howell Mountain – Aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, rich earth, spice and liquorice are followed by a palate of striking persistence and structural amplitude. In 2013 this is typically large-scaled, fresh and built for the long haul, but Mike Dunn’s thoughtful changes to the estate’s barrel programme have resulted in more refined tannins.
